“Going Green” starts from the inside out - here are some steps A+ is taking to tread a bit lighter on this earth. We hope that by sharing our journey into the green we are able to inspire our clients, colleagues and friends to do the same. Below you’ll see how we’re changing our everyday practices into new environmentally-friendly habits.
- Switching over to energy efficient light bulbs - When using energy efficient light bulbs, a person can expect to save 75 percent of their energy per bulb.
- Recycling toner and ink cartridges - According to Office Depot each remanufactured toner cartridge keeps 2.5 lbs of metal and plastic out of landfills and conserves about a half gallon of oil. (often directions for recycling your old cartridges are on the box- if not check out www.eco-office.com for business near you that buy and purchase used office material)
- We offer our clients the use of recycled paper when printing for them - recycled-content options exist within most grades of paper, and most recycled papers contain a minimum of 10 to 30 percent post-consumer material.
- We recycle cardboard boxes and office paper instead of throwing it out with the regular garbage. Recycling 1 short ton (0.91 t) of paper saves 17 mature trees, 7 thousand US gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity - enough energy to power the average American home for six months.
- We try to use mugs, glasses and other re-usable dishware at work.
- We use duplex copies when printing - this option is under PROPERTIES tab when printing - it’s simply printing on both sides of the paper. On average U.S. office workers go through 10,000 sheets of copy paper per year.
- Power down your computer each night - or at least the screen - this easy task can save as much as $100 per year/ per computer.
Even with all the “green efforts” out there the amount of paper sent by mail that gets recycled is still incredibly small. You should encourage your mail recipients to not just trash your marketing piece- it can be as simple as including a line on your mailing encouraging them to recycle- or tell them to save the piece and use it as a coupon in the future. |
